Mi historia comienza cuando sólo tenía 14 años, una inmigrante que llegó a Estados Unidos con mis hermanos. Nuestra madre nos trajo aquí en busca de mejores oportunidades, con la esperanza de crear un futuro mejor para nosotros. Poco me imaginaba que este viaje daría forma a mi identidad y a mi camino de maneras que nunca habría imaginado.
A los 18 años me independicé y me casé joven. A los 19, estaba embarazada de mi primer hijo. Enfrentada a responsabilidades tan tempranas, luché por compaginar la maternidad con mis sueños de completar mis estudios universitarios. El estrés de compaginar mis estudios con la crianza de un hijo era a veces abrumador, lo que me llevaba a momentos en los que no podía ni comer, agobiada por el peso de mis responsabilidades.
A los 18 años me independicé y me casé joven. A los 19, estaba embarazada de mi primer hijo. Enfrentada a responsabilidades tan tempranas, luché por compaginar la maternidad con mis sueños de completar mis estudios universitarios. El estrés de compaginar mis estudios con la crianza de un hijo era a veces abrumador, lo que me llevaba a momentos en los que no podía ni comer, agobiada por el peso de mis responsabilidades.

Justo cuando estaba a punto de terminar la carrera, descubrí que estaba embarazada de mi segundo hijo. Esta noticia me obligó a replantearme mis prioridades y, a regañadientes, dejé de lado mis estudios para centrarme en mis hijas y en el trabajo. Fue durante esta época difícil cuando me divorcié por primera vez, una decisión que al principio pensé que sería un revés. Sin embargo, resultó ser una de las mejores decisiones que he tomado, ya que me liberó para perseguir mis sueños.
Con renovada determinación, empecé a prosperar en mi carrera en una institución financiera. Trabajé duro, escalé puestos y, finalmente, me convertí en gerente. Este éxito me permitió volver a la escuela y terminar por fin mis estudios. Recuperé el equilibrio que había estado buscando, demostrándome a mí misma que podía superar cualquier obstáculo.
Tras casarme de nuevo, di la bienvenida al mundo a mi tercer hijo. Esta vez, estaba más asentada en mi carrera y mi educación. Me aventuré en el mundo empresarial, una decisión que transformó mi vida. Me ofreció la flexibilidad necesaria para dedicar tiempo a mi espiritualidad, mis hijos y mi carrera. Me empoderé y descubrí una nueva identidad que me permitió reflexionar sobre todos los momentos que creía haberme perdido.
Mientras navegaba por los altibajos de la vida, experimenté un crecimiento personal que culminó en un segundo divorcio. Esta transición me ofreció claridad y la oportunidad de reconciliar las diferencias en mi interior. Mis hijas se convirtieron en mi principal prioridad, junto con mi negocio y mi viaje espiritual.
Mirando hacia atrás, me doy cuenta de que el equilibrio que perseguía no consistía únicamente en gestionar las responsabilidades, sino en aceptar los retos y aprender de ellos. Estoy agradecida a Dios por la fuerza que me infundió y por todas las personas que se cruzaron en mi camino: las que me mostraron lo que no quería ser y las que me inspiraron a ser la mejor versión de mí misma.
Hoy, como empresaria y madre abnegada, soy un testimonio de resiliencia. Mi camino ha estado lleno de obstáculos, pero cada paso me ha acercado más a la vida que había imaginado. Espero que mi historia inspire a otras mujeres a aceptar sus retos y seguir luchando por sus sueños, por desalentadores que parezcan.

Dr. Charissa D. Pizarro
La Dra. Charissa D. Pizarro es una Psicóloga Clínica Licenciada Bilingüe y Terapeuta de Juego Registrada con más de 20 años de experiencia trabajando con diversas poblaciones clínicas. Ha dedicado su carrera a trabajar con las poblaciones menos privilegiadas y más necesitadas. En la actualidad, dirige dos programas financiados por los servicios de protección de menores, en los que los profesionales clínicos van al hogar y proporcionan terapia individual, familiar, de pareja y/o de juego a familias afectadas por traumas graves y cuyos hijos han sido retirados o corren el riesgo de ser retirados del hogar por los servicios de protección de menores. Muchos de los clientes de estos programas no sólo hablan español, sino que a menudo son inmigrantes indocumentados.
La Dra. Pizarro también tiene una pequeña consulta privada en la que trata problemas como depresión, ansiedad, traumas y trastornos de adaptación. Realiza evaluaciones psicológicas que incluyen evaluaciones de inmigración y bariátricas. Las evaluaciones de inmigración son a menudo un factor determinante para permanecer o salir de este país y para mantener o disolver una unidad familiar.
La Dra. Pizarro también tiene una pequeña consulta privada en la que trata problemas como depresión, ansiedad, traumas y trastornos de adaptación. Realiza evaluaciones psicológicas que incluyen evaluaciones de inmigración y bariátricas. Las evaluaciones de inmigración son a menudo un factor determinante para permanecer o salir de este país y para mantener o disolver una unidad familiar.

Aparte de su vida laboral, la Dra. Pizarro es una ferviente defensora de los derechos de los inmigrantes y pertenece a la APA: Immigration Advocacy Working Group, en Washington DC y a muchos otros grupos de defensa de los inmigrantes, los niños y las familias. La Dra. Pizarro ha escrito un libro infantil sobre la superación y el trauma relacionados con la inmigración. El libro está disponible en inglés y español. También ha escrito otras obras que se enumeran a continuación.
Los esfuerzos del Dr. Pizarro se extienden internacionalmente. En noviembre de 2019, el Dr. Pizarro fue delegado de la APA en Portugal, donde un grupo de Psicólogos de todos los Estados Unidos y otras partes del mundo se reunieron para discutir varios temas importantes de Psicología, incluyendo la inmigración, el trauma psicológico, la salud mental materna, la adicción y el envejecimiento de la población. La discusión de estos temas fue con la esperanza de que los delegados pudieran colaborar para encontrar soluciones a los problemas planteados, así como aprender unos de otros sobre las políticas y procedimientos que están funcionando bien en el país de cualquiera de los delegados. El Dr. Pizarro realizó una delegación similar de la APA en enero de 2024 y visitó Tanzania. El tema central fue el trauma y sus múltiples efectos, así como las formas de ayudar a los supervivientes de traumas, especialmente mujeres y niños.
La Dra. Pizarro es miembro de varias organizaciones, entre ellas la APA, la LMHA, la Asociación de Terapia de Juego y es coordinadora de voluntarios para la República Dominicana de Postpartum Support International.
La Dra. Pizarro recibió el Premio a la Trayectoria Profesional Temprana 2020 de la División de Política Infantil y Familiar (Div. 37) de la APA y el Premio JetBlue Healthcare Heroes- Lifting our Heroes.

Hi, I'm Aura
A woman with a story full of challenges and overcoming challenges.
I was born in Los Minas, Dominican Republic, a humble and low-income sector. I grew up surrounded by challenges that pushed me to dream of a better future. Luckily I was accepted at the Politecnico Virgen de la Altagracia where I saw different options that marked my path.
I was 13 years old when my father died in an accident. Although mommy wanted the best for her 2 daughters, now orphans, she didn't have the resources to get it.
After many struggles against a system that does not give you a way out, I was able to go to university and graduate as a Computer Engineer and Public Accountant at the age of 19. However, without political connections, facing the working world at my age and without experience was (still is) complicated in my country.
It was a great miracle that we made it to the United States. Here I continued studying. Although money was still scarce, I was able to work tirelessly in various trades, from taking care of HIV positive children to selling products on the street to pay for college in the USA.
Everything had already changed, I worked in the corporate area in Accounting, Banking and International Finance offices; however, my entrepreneurial spirit had much more to do.
But I had to face another challenge !
Divorced and single mother of 3 children, I had learned to transform adversities into business opportunities. I started several projects from scratch, managing to generate significant income. My main business as a tax strategist allowed me to create capital that I invested in real estate and I was able to graduate my 3 children in their college careers.
PS: Yes, I got married again! To a man of integrity and nobility. He assumed the commitment to be an example for my 3 children. My great friend. Accomplice of all my projects !

Where did the idea for this project come from?
Una Mujer a la Vez
From thinking about my mom and the few resources available to her and to women still in Latin America. From my own experience as a woman entrepreneur and the limitations we faced with banks and investors to acquire working capital!
Thus, the idea of «Una Mujer a la Vez» was born.
I want to help other Latinas around the world who, like me, have great ideas and aspirations, but need capital, resources and the knowledge to realize them.
I have formed a team committed to this project, to extend a helping hand to those who need it.
Throughout my 32 years of business experience, and over 6,000 clients per year, I have helped approximately 90,000 people improve their personal and business finances.
My great mission now is YOU, to empower you to become an entrepreneur, establish productive businesses and do it debt free.
